| DELIGHTs Ringside chat Hi All, How is everyone? I am grateful for having my everyday routine of going to work and home. The hurricane has certainly rocked the daily routine of thousands of people on the gulf coast. I hope those of you with family and friends in that part of the country have not had any losses of life or faith. As most of you know the military family day that was planned for Sept 11, 2005 has been canceled. On Friday, NH is expecting 500 Louisiana residents to come into the Pease airplane hanger used by the NH Air National Guard. It is the location that would have been used for the event. Keeping our senses of humor intact, remembering to have patience with each child or person we meet as we go out as entertainers and clowns takes on a larger than life meaning during trying times. We do not know what a person may be coping with. As most of you know, coping with loss has several stages: denial, grief, anger and finally acceptance. It is a clowns job to lift people up during hard times, to help them find their senses of humor and to affirm things will get better. There are all kinds of laughter. Today I just want to take a moment to tell you about one kind of laughter. When we find the purest form of laughing - laughing at things, ourselves, our faults, our circumstances, our losses, these things no longer have power over us. Let me say that again: When we can laugh at things, (our losses included) they no longer have power over us. The Monday of Labor Day weekend I shared lots of laughter with the children and families who turned out for the St Charles Childrens Home 5 K race and fun run held at Pease. There were lots of wonderful volunteers in addition to me, but I was the only one making balloon creations. One athlete, a big rugged guy, was wearing his daughters butterfly balloon hat. Picture Hulk Hogan in a butterfly balloon hat. Just the sight of him had me and the people in my balloon line laughing out loud. He must have liked it as he wore it quite a while! Come to our movie night meeting. I will bring the Popcorn. OOXX

Steve Kissell Family Entertainment Specialist gave a superb workshop sponsored by Alley 54. It was the best $5 I have spent in some time. Thanks to Pounds of Clowns for paying the rest of the $30 registration fee. Steve had us laughing while teaching us ways to improve our art of bringing laughter to others. Want an example? Ask to see my driver's license next time you see me. Joan Gillis, Newsletter Editor |
