Notes from the February meeting

Regular Business:  Treasurer not present - no Treasurer's report.  Secretary referred all to "Notes from January meeting" in the newsletter for Secretary's report.
Old Business:  Send COAI numbers to Barbara Novak.  Editor was reminded that she had omitted from last month's "Notes" our discussion about possible agents to use:  Total Entertainment of Peabody, Just For Fun of Portsmouth and Cousin Richie were among those mentioned.  It was also suggested that clowns use their website to introduce potential customers to you and your clown character.
New Business:  Rie mentioned that she is working on a project that would coordinate the activities of the four "local" alleys.  Under the program, alleys would share programs of interest to all.  Her newsletter will be called, Alley Cat News.  Alan Flagg suggested that we have have a program on makeup for the European Clown also referred to as "Light Auguste."
Sunshine
:  J is recovering from surgery.  Ed note:  Since that surgery, J has had another surgery as a result of a fall he experienced in the hospital.  We send J, get well wishes.
Program:  Nurse Val-yum shared hints on hospital clowning ranging from possible "medical" costumes to suggestions on how to break into that field.  His suggested reading list includes The Hospital Clown by Patty Wooten and The Caring Clown by Richard Snowberg.

DELIGHT’s Ringside chat

What a beautiful and wonderful life it is! It took me several days to shake off the somberness associated with the start of the Lenten season at my church and find just the right word to pass on to you for this month. Drum roll please!

Text Box: EXUBERANCE!

Most people recognize and even admire exuberance in children.  Many, however, let it go out of their own lives about the time they get their high school diploma or in severe cases, even earlier.  We think of clowns as having the heart of a child and realize that one of the qualities that makes clowns be clowns is the exuberance that has stayed with them into adulthood.

For me, EXUBERANCE means having a sense of play with boundless energy, imagination, spirit, and enthusiasm. Exuberance means having the ability to suspend time, and be totally focused on the present moment. When I allow myself to be EXUBERANT; I find myself in creative mode. My clown character and I start accomplishing things with ease!

Need a spring pick me up?  Allow yourself to be Exuberant!

To get more than the daily tasks of life done, I have to believe that there is enough time to get other things done. Exuberance is the bridge from where I am to where I want to be.  I tried this at home this weekend. It was great!   I found, though, that the following warning signs might be in order:

Text Box: CAUTION! EXUBEREANCE HAPPENING HERE TODAY!

Exuberance can be more than a little unnerving for the people around you who are still in the winter doldrums and wanting to stay in hibernation. )

See you at the meeting.
Bump a Nose!

  Season change hint for clowns

Mud season will soon be upon us! The combination of mud season and enormous clown shoes can put a damper on a party or event if the housekeeping staff (or the Mom) spends the first 10 minutes of the “happy” clown’s visit cleaning the carpet.  Put your clown shoes on at the doorstep or bring a cloth to wipe down the soles. Then ring the bell.  The visit will have a better chance of getting off on the right foot.
